New Daily Show The Tea from the Video Call Center and Wetpaint Speeds Past Half Million Online Viewers in Just First Month in Production
Uses Exclusive Video Call-In Technology to Engage Audience by Connecting them with Their Favorite Celebrities
New York, NY—The Tea, the new daily video call-in gossip show produced by The Video Call Center and Wetpaint, today announced that the ground-breaking new show has attracted more than half a million viewers in just its first month. In excess of one hundred thousand viewers per week join the online-only show and according to Wetpaint dwell time statistics, they stay tuned in for significantly longer than typical site visitors. The Tea, available every weekday at 3pm ET on Wetpaint at thetea.tv as well as Facebook Live, uses the Video Call Center’s patented video caller platform to create a novel program that enables celebrities, audiences, and hosts to engage in compelling, unscripted, unexpected conversation.
The VCC platform is one of a small number of new technologies to be showcased for leaders and innovators of unscripted and non-fiction live program production at the upcoming Real Screen Summit, January 23-26, in Washington, DC.
Wetpaint’s The Tea is representative of a new breed of live content being produced on the Video Call Center platform for distribution both online and via traditional broadcast platforms. The VCC makes it possible to simultaneously connect multiple video callers from around the world—including viewers, celebrities and other guests—via their computers or smartphones and bring them all together in live, broadcast-caliber programs. The show averages more than a dozen on-air remote video callers/contributors per TV half-hour. This flexible scalability combined with Wetpaint’s social engagement technologies, results in programming that resonates with Wetpaint’s more than ten million fans.
VCC puts the host in direct control of the flow of the show and eliminates the requirement for an expensive TV control room. This change dramatically alters the economics of live television production and creates opportunities for content producers to innovate. The VCC makes it possible for video callers to join live programs using any device and a more than a dozen IP video calling services, including Facebook Messenger, SkypeTM, FaceTime® and Gruveo (WebRTC). The VCC platform includes caller filtering and moderation features to ensure that only the most compelling and appropriate callers make it to air.
Larry Thaler, the CEO of the VCC, said, “Shows like The Tea are using the Video Call Center to fundamentally change what is meant by audience engagement. This is social TV in the truest sense, where the audience has the chance to be on camera and contributing to the conversation. We’re seeing content creators from across the spectrum of entertainment and news re-evaluate how they connect with their audiences thanks to the success of programs like The Tea.”
